DANNIJO

Dannijo are a jewellery brand Founded by sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder in 2008, DANNIJO has fast become a name to watch in jewelry design. Their eclectic, colorful style is an exciting synergy of indie hipster attitude with Old Hollywood glamour - a reflection of their different but complementary personalities. They create heavily embroidered pieces. They combine swarovski crystals and rock and roll style chains.

They have a very hands on designing process.

Their use of layered chains really inspires me and i think it creates an interesting look.

Dannijo also create 'warrior busts' made up of many layers of chains and heavily embellished jewellery pieces.

Inspiration

Inspiration

After researching some designers who use recycled materials i decided to pick a dark, gothic theme that i could incorperate into my work. I found images of heavily embellished garments and jewellery pieces that inspired me.

From these images i have created some basic jewellery designs.
Basic ink sketches.
From the basic sketches i decided to do a coloured ink and water sketch, i then developed this by creating different necklace samples out of scrap fabrics and yarns. I then stitched them onto a piece of clear PVC that i layered over the image.

I am very pleased with the outcome although i have decided i would rather work with a material such as metal rather than the fabrics and yarns that i created the samples with.

Recycle Runway Research

Research

I have collected some research that has inspired me to use recycled materials. All of these designers have used recycled materials to create their designs.
Jamie K

Necklace made from shotgun shells and dress made from recycled tent.

Necklace made from soda cans.

Dress made from recycled vinyl records.

All of Jamie K's creations are made using recycled materials, above are some examples of her work.

She collects her recycled materials either by collecting items other people have discarded or other people save and collect items for her. Her design process begins with experimentation and sampling with the materials until she is inspired to create a garment/accessory.

Each gathering of dresses are made with an assortment of recycled and salvaged materials and no two are alike . In the skirt you'll find tons of layers utilizing a wide variety of found bits from, for example, a lace sleeve from a vintage gown, gobs of tulle and lace, hankies, and vintage veils. They also use materials such as leather and sequins.
